About the collaboration project

Works around Tubbs Lane foot bridge

The Bicester to Oxford Collaboration programme is being delivered by an integrated project team comprising Network Rail (responsible for UK rail infrastructure), Chiltern Railways (train services operator), and a joint venture led by local companies Carillion and Buckingham Group Contracting (as design-and-build contractor) with support from the East West Rail Consortium – a group of local authorities (including Oxfordshire County Council) and business interests.

Carillion and Buckingham Group Contracting will deliver the design and construction of the new Chiltern Railways route between London Marylebone and Oxford via Bicester, and the western section of the East West Rail scheme that will eventually join Oxford to Bedford and Milton Keynes.

The project includes building a new one kilometre section of railway to connect the Bicester Town to Oxford line to the Chiltern main line. It will also involve widening the existing track bed; doubling over 18km of track; increasing line speed to100mph; constructing new overbridges, underbridges and footbridges; closing 37 level crossings; building a new Oxford Parkway station at Water Eaton; upgrading Bicester Town and Islip stations; and installing a new signalling system.
